Big Bass Lake is located about 20 miles north and west of Baldwin, Michigan. We will be taking off at 7:00 AM. The weigh-in will be at 3:00 PM. Launch at the DNR Ramp, (which is on the southwest end of the lake) with parking at the township hall, just east of the ramp. We then motor over to the old Bass Lake Store for check in. The old store is in the very south end of the southeast bay. The Public Access is in the southwest bay. Please note: Big Bass Lake has a no wake law in effect until 11:00 AM. Idle speed only until that time. To get to Big Bass Lake you can use M-37 and follow the map below, or you can come across 8 Mile Rd from US31 through Freesoil, or you can come south from Bosschem Rd.(which turns into Big Bass Lake Rd.) off M55.
If you're looking for tackle or lake information you will want to talk to Mike at Tiny's Trading Post. Mike can take care of all of your hunting and fishing needs, including licenses. Hungry, coming from the north you may go through Irons where you will find the Oak Grove. This is a unique place with great food that you won't want to miss. Check their website out. It is listed as a link in our interesting sites page which you can access from our home page. Coming from the South, you have three more great food stop options. Club 37 on M37 just south of 4 Mile Rd (Loon Lake Rd) and Blossum's Cafe, located just north of 4 Mile across from Loon Lake on Bass Lake Rd., and the Na-Tah-Ka which is between Loon Lake and Big Bass Lake, also on Bass Lake Rd. A few miles further north you could stop at the Dublin General Store, on Hoxeyville Rd., just south of Wellston. They are famous for their jerky, and if they don't have what you need in the line of grocery or hardware supplies, they don't make it. Coming from M37 you will pass by the Sauble Lake Emporium where you can buy goodies to groceries.
The father-son team of Dan and Nathan Shine caught 7 fish weighing 14 lbs. and 3 oz. Big bass of the the tournament was caught by Matt Hoogerhyde a 4lb. 9 oz largemouth.
The "Bass Lake Boys" Matt Hoogerhyde and Josh Meyers won with 6 fish that weighed 10 lbs. 6 oz. The big bass was caught by C.J. LaCoste a largemouth weighing 3.7 lbs.
Last year on Big Bass the weather started out overcast, and a bit breezy. The sun broke out about noon and fishing got real tough. Steve "The Weighmeister" Wever weighed in a total of 58 bass. The winning team was Jon Jackoviak and Olen Gannon. They brought in 8 fish that tipped the scales at 11.6 lbs. Big Bass of the tournament was caught by Nathan Shine a 2.8 lb. largemouth.
