They caught an early limit and spent the day culling fish. You know when the "Made to be Wet" boat is setting still all day that they are on a honey hole, and the big motor started only twice Sunday. Once to get to their spot, and once to run to the weigh-in. For their efforts they took home a $580 check, a $100 gift certificate from Pere Marquette Sports on Main St. in Ludington, and 10 packages of tubes from Great Lakes Tubes. A 20 lb. 3 oz. limit was caught by last year's Hamlin winners, Matt Hoogerhyde and Josh Myers. Right behind Skinner and Hosmer was the current Classic leaders Ron Fasel and C.J. Le Costa of Traverse City. They weighed in a limit of their favorite green fish that the weigh master, Ron Hicks, called 19 lbs. 1 oz. Ron and C.J. spent most of their day up shallow in the north lake. The algae bloom on the south lake made the shore line look the consistency of pea soup making shallow water fishing unproductive. Big bass of the day was caught by Terry Johnson. He and his wife weighed in two fish that were big uns. Their biggest was a 5 lb. 3 oz. largemouth that won the Fountain natives $230. Second place in the big fish category was the Nashville, MI team of Mike Hill Sr. and Jr. Their big fish also came on a worm in the north lake. They got to take back home two new Berkley rods to add to their rod locker. The weather Sunday was hot, clear and nary a breeze until about 11 am.
